Choosing to listen to another individual actively is a good quality to have, and it can bring bountiful relationships into our life. On the other hand, if we choose to listen actively and engage with others, we are showing them that they matter and forming an alliance, and strengthening relationships. The mission statement of the Jewish people is Shema Yisrael - 'Listen. We are called on to hear that message, not just in the sense of hearing the notes, but to listen intently and receive it. It's a voice with an explicit message, something directly intelligible. By not listening to someone or passively listening, we are causing strain on that relationship, which can eventually affect our mental health. The shofar isn't just a sound, it's a voice. In other words, we are telling this individual that what they are saying and feeling is not essential at the moment, and as a result, we are minimizing them. Sometimes we choose not to listen to another individual because we are too busy or do not want to hear what they say. When we choose not to listen to someone, whether our spouse, coworker, peer, friend, or child, we potentially create a rift in the relationship. You are ignorant of where the universe is, and thus, where you are. You cannot answer it, and you never will. "The universe is well, there are theories about how it's shaped."
